Pharmacogenomics in Oncology. Program 207

Program Description

Pharmacogenomics in oncology involves the study of how an individual's genetic makeup influences their response to cancer drugs, aiming to optimize treatment efficacy and minimize adverse effects. By analyzing genetic variations, clinicians can identify specific biomarkers that predict drug metabolism, toxicity, and overall treatment outcomes. Pharmacists play a crucial role in this field, as they are uniquely positioned to interpret genetic test results, collaborate with healthcare teams, and provide personalized drug therapy recommendations. Their expertise ensures that cancer patients receive tailored treatment plans based on their genetic profiles, optimizing drug selection and dosage adjustments. Additionally, pharmacists contribute to patient education, addressing concerns and promoting adherence to personalized treatment regimens. Overall, the integration of pharmacogenomics in oncology, with the active involvement of pharmacists, represents a significant advancement in precision medicine, offering the potential for more effective and safer cancer treatments.

At the end of this presentation, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. Explain the role of pharmacogenomic testing in oncology and the impact of the pharmacist
